This concept &#8220;of opening innovation to external partners&#8221; was initially used by companies such as IBM or Lilly in their R&amp;D and Innovation projects.\u00a0Other companies soon followed suit. For instance, Procter &amp; Gamble with their program<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pgconnectdevelop.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Connect and Develop<\/a>\u00a0 with their program Connect and Develop, have integrated this concept into their corporate strategy. Nowadays, it is a commonly used concept in Innovation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The term \u2018Open Innovation\u2019 was first coined by Professor Henry Chesbrough who, from 1997 to 2003, held the post of Assistant Professor at Harvard Business School, with a joint appointment in the area of Technology and Operations Management and in Entrepreneurial Management. Additionally, Professor Chesbrough has worked in various Fortune 500 companies in fields related to mass storage, application software, network and communications, and information services. He is also an expert in after-sales services, support to the copy industry and the impact of the Internet on the insurance industry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/facultybio.haas.berkeley.edu\/faculty-list\/chesbrough-henry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Professor Chesbrough<\/a>\u00a0(BerkleyHaas University)\u00a0actively participates in workshops and projects working on Open Innovation with universities and companies. As well as regularly teaching at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.esade.edu\/faculty\/henry.chesbrough\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ESADE<\/a>, Henry Chesbrough also leads an <a href=\"http:\/\/Innovation Forum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Open Innovation Forum<\/a> which keeps the topic constantly updated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Connociam had the opportunity to participate in the 2013 EIF conference held at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.esade.edu\/web\/eng\">ESADE<\/a> with professors <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Henry_Chesbrough\">Henry Chesbrough<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/alexosterwalder.com\/\">Alexander Osterwalder<\/a>.\u00a0This conference provided the platform to share experiences of using Open Innovation in business model change and the new tools of the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessmodelgeneration.com\/canvas\/bmc\">Business Model Canvas<\/a>.
